Epson’s track record for multifunction inkjet printer is good and the latest Stylus SX115 seems to follow this pattern. One weakness of the Epson multifunction range has been the high price of the printer ink cartridges and again the SX115 follows this too. However, compared to it competitors the SX115 does use a more economical four colour ink systems which consist of four separate Epson ink cartridges allowing each cartridges to be changed individually. A set of Epson SX115 ink cartridges costs around £30 in genuine form and compatibles around half that. The SX115 offers a good array of functions including high resolution printing, scanning and copying as well as some surprises features such as direct printing from memory cards and digital cameras thanks to the SX115’s built in memory card reader and PictBridge connection. The machine itself is very compact and makes use of good quality materials which give a solid feel to it construction. Operating noise is a little higher than average and printing speed is slow too. The slow printing speed effects both printing and copying functions but the quality of print makes up for these short falls as it is very good for a printer with such a small price tag. The scanner works well for a wide range of documents from a basic drawing right up to high resolution photo print and the colour reproduction is excellent with good resemblance to the original document. The Stylus SX115 is a bets suited to those looking for a versatile printer on a budget and doesn’t need to use it for particularly large work loads.
